Congressional Information and the Internet

openhouse logoThe Open House Project has recenctly released a a new report, ‘Congressional Information & the Internet‘ with the goal of examinating the role of Internet Technology in the House of Representatives.

The research is the result of a collaborative effort by a broad coalition of participants with backgrounds and expertise in media, government, information technology and blogging among other disciplines.

In the era of the Internet, institutions like parliaments are evolving to connect constituents with information and public authorities. Due to the emergence of new information and communication technologies, the role of legislative information is changing and being redefined. New forms of online civic engagement bring the opportunity to reconsider the manner in which the House of RepresentativeS makes itself visible online.

Some of the key issues discussed in the report include: ‘Legislation Database’, ‘Congressional Research Service’, ‘Citizen Journalism Access’, and the ‘Congressional Video’.
