In this paper Governing by the Numbers, Daniel Esty and Reece Rushing bring to the table a very interesting issue: the importance of data-driven decisionmaking applied to governing.

According to this approach, improvements in information technologies increasingly provide the ability to collect, aggregate, analyze and disseminate huge volumes of data. If these tools are well utilized and focused on serving policymaking objectives, decisionmaking can become more targeted, tailored, responsive and innovative, improving government effectiveness.
