Connect, awarded at the Irish eGovernment Awards
Connect, developed by the South Dublin County Council was recently awarded the Best Local Irish eGovernment Award in the Irish eGovernment Awards that took place in February 2007.
The Connect website is designed to bring technology to the community, enable people to use technology in innovative ways, and shape internet content to be more relevant to local interests and needs.
The website launched different initiatives like ‘ConnectWEB’, which offers a free website to community and voluntary groups in the County, so that these groups can have a web presence. ‘Connect School’, another initiative, is working with the St. Aidan’s Community School to develop student centred technology through an innovative learning culture in order to improve school attendance, participation in class and educational outcomes for the students. ‘Connect Me’ and ‘Connect Centre’ are also part of the offer.
Connect envisions a future where everyone in South Dublin uses the internet as an everyday tool to improve their quality of life and where opportunities are developed for life-long learning, leisure, personal and social development and to support engagement in civic life.
