The International Teledemocracy Centre (ITC)

International Teledemocracy Centre logoIn 1999, Napier University established the International Teledemocracy Centre, dedicated to researching innovative e-democracy systems that will strengthen public understanding and participation in democratic decision-making. The Centre is the only one of its kind in the UK, combining relevant software engineering applications with political and sociological analysis.

ITC, with an already well established solid international reputation, has developed a complementary research agenda across three main areas of interest: technology-supported communication between government and civil society; managing public agency information and knowledge; and the societal effect of technology on the democratic process and the development of an e-participation evaluation framework.

The Centre is actively involved with governmental, business and voluntary organisations concerned with the research and development of e-democracy systems in the UK, Europe, the Commonwealth and the US.
