Latvians can declare their place of residence by e-mail

In order to try this new feature, the person must send in an electronically signed declaration form. The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) confirms then that it has received the e-mail, enters the information into the Population Register and sends the declaration with the signature to the local authority.

Vilnis Jēkabsons, Head of the OCMA, stressed that the procedure is completely safe and is now far simpler than before. In order to avoid potential fraud, each electronic application will be checked twice.
