Online public petitions at the Scottish Parliament

Scottish Parliament e-government logoe-Petitioner is a very interesting initiative from the Scottish Parliament the allows citizens to have their public petitions live on the Internet, rather than simply on paper. Petitions and other complementary information can then be made available to a potentially much wider audience, giving the piece the opportunity to get more support from other people.

A petition may gather signatures in both online and paper forms, and each of them has its own discussion forum, where visitors and signatories can discuss the content and surrounding issues online.

There is a ‘Guidance on the submission of public petitions’ that provides information on the kind of issues that can be raised,  the form and content of the petition, how the Public Petitions Committee (PPC) will consider the petition and who to contact for further information.
