An eDemocracy research project in Waitakere, New Zealand
Conducted by Andy Williamson, a leading community researcher in New Zealand involved with Information Technology for several years, the aim of this research is to examine the impact of using ICT to facilitate and influence the democratic process in a regional community in New Zealand, namely Waitakere City.
The project is attempting first to identify how those active in local democracy are using ICTs to engage, communicate, connect and publish. In a second phase the goal is to develop a model that describes an emergent process for local eDemocracy looking at temporal factors of access, ICT literacy, motivation and equity.
The research is based on a New Zealand-wide survey and interviews with key community and government informants in Waitakere City.
