Citizen Calling, a pilot initiative for youngsters

The aim of the project is to find out if in sending in their experiences, ideas and views through mobile phone messages young people find taking part in the political process easier and more appealing.

Citizen Calling taps into the idea that young people have something important to offer British politics. But taking part does not mean that you need to be an MP, a member of a party or have ever had anything to do with politics in the past. Politics isn’t all about parties and procedures - it can also be about communities, ideas and issues.

The initiative turned to be both a unique opportunity for young people to tell MPs on the Home Affairs Committee about their experiences, ideas and opinions on the criminal justice system; and also an exploration of how mobile phones might help people and Parliament communicate with one another.

This first experience is closed now, and evaluations are being carried out. Conclusions are set to be released shortly.
